2008 Wisconsin Whitetail Hunting Season Wrap-up

Posted by Chrud , 13 December 2008 · 147 views

I took a quick run out to my food plot during my lunch break on Thursday.  When I got there, I noticed a lot of great deer sign.  However, I also noticed the winter storm that came through the area earlier in the week had it's way with my pop-up blind.  There is still some time left for hunting, but the snow is accumulating very quickly.  I really want to get some late season scouting done before the snow is too deep to get around.  With that, my 2008 Wisconsin whitetail hunting season has come to a close.

This year has been very memorable for me.  For the first time, my brother and I were able to go bow hunting and expect to see deer.  Our food plots are really paying off.  We both had a very successful archery season.  My brother killed a fork-horn buck on October 11 and I killed my biggest buck to date on November 8.  The early archery season was filled with a lot of close encounters for me.  Finally being able to watch deer really helped me a lot too.  I feel like I've learned a lot and can use some of my new knowledge to my advantage in future hunting seasons.

The gun season and muzzleloader season was also pretty good.  My brother killed a spike buck, and my cousin Cory and neighbor Steve were able to get a couple deer.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to read my blog this hunting season.  I hope I provided you with some good stories about hunting whitetails in Wisconsin.  I'm already looking forward to the bow hunting opener in 2009.
