Thanks for stopping by and checking out my field journal.

For those of you who don't know me to well, let me tell you a little bit about myself.  My name is Matt and I live near Aniwa, Wisconsin.  I've been hunting and fishing as long as I can remember.  My favorite outdoor activity is bowhunting Wisconsin whitetails.  I also hunt several other game animals, including turkeys, but hunting whitetail is my favorite.  In the future I'm hoping to travel outside of Wisconsin for some hunts.  One hunt that is on my "to do" list is a Wyoming antelope bowhunt.

I probably won't have a whole lot of entries until the early part of the summer.  For the first time in a long time I didn't apply for a Wisconsin Spring Turkey tag.  I'm saving my vacation days for the first week in November.

This year my brother and I will be planting food plots for the second year in a row.  2007 was the first time we tried planting food plots, and it was a success for me.  We didn't do any PH tests or spend much money, but our plots turned out exceptionally well for our first try.  I had one of the best hunts of my life when I got to watch a nice Pope & Young class whitetail for nearly 30 minutes feeding on my food plot and making rubs and scrapes, all the while not knowing I was there.  The Buck Forage Oats and Winter Rye food plot paid off on November 3 as I arrowed a 7-point buck.  I didn't have a lot of time to bowhunt in 2007, so I wasn't being too picky.  My brother's plot was mainly turnips, which turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment.  In 2008, I plan on using the same seeds, and maybe try a couple new tricks.  I also plan on planting a few pine trees near my plot.

We've got some pretty big plans for 2008.  I bought a couple Rivers Edge hang-on stands and have a couple new spots to try out.  As I stated earlier, I'm saving my vacation days to use a couple around the first week of November.  I'm also planning on purchasing a muzzleloader in a couple months.  I'm waiting to see what is introduced at the SHOT Show, but the T/C Encore Pro Hunter is currently the gun I'm looking at.  Muzzleloader hunting has become a lot more popular recently in Wisconsin, so I'm going to take some time off for that season rather than the 9-day gun season.

I'll be keeping you updated.  Thanks again for stopping by my field journal!
