The last time Danny, DWS and I were at Spruce Swamp Beagle Club (SSBC) I did a post of our hunt at Better Beagling's web forum. The owner of the publication "Better Beagling" contacted me and asked me to write a story about it. I did and it has been published in their January 2010 issue.
They were very kind to send my a pdf file of the article. Please click on the link. http://kaska.net/201...SpruceSwamp.pdf
The moons must have been aligned because yesterday I planned a trip to SSBC. I took a young friend from the Marsh Marauders web forum, Cold Waters or Ed for short. Our mission was to replenish the wood supply. I copied his account from MM and am posting it here with my reply.
As Roccus 's dad would say "Yesterday was a good day to be alive".

Venturing to the world of myth...............
I finally was along for the ride... not by way of the camera or keyboard.... but by way of the snowshoe.... to a place that I have heard is more of legend than experience....a place in south central NH that I will not soon forget.
I made the venture with Coalman and Bay.. we talked with hunters using the same retreat as ourselves and then set about paying the dues of membership... we had packed in a chain saw and cut near bye fallen trees. then proceeded to sweep out the retreat and stock the place with firewood for the visitors behind us... and you never know maybe for us in the future... what a place to find not too far off the beaten path and awfully close to home... i couldn't imagine spending my morning in a better way... thanks for taking me along Dave.
for what it is worth there are secrets in the log and on the premise itself that i recommend you find on your own by visiting someday...

Thank you for accompanying me CW. I thoroughly enjoyed our trip. More than once while I was talking to you about past friends and beagles I got choked up from the memories. Camp Nasty is a very special place for me.
What CW says is right. This place is a mystery, a legend, a mythical place all within the reach of civilization. Every log account from non hunters were full of words of disbelief, bewilderment, and amazement that such a place exists.
A few snowshoe hare hunters were there with their beagles. They told a heartwarming story of a recent trip by an elderly long time local resident who brought his clan out to the swamp and to the cabin. The hunters had shot a hare. The patriot got the clan together for a group photo. The elder held the hare. The hunter told us the smile on the old man's face could have been framed.
It was a good feeling CW to get in and replenish the wood supply. I have promised myself for years I would do that. Thank you for the help.
CW, you have been bestowed upon a very special place in my heart. I hope you share it with someone special to you.
