Bugs And Bass 2016 06-24-16
The Facebook caption to a 5 year old memory said "15 traps 18 keepah's". Shawn and Christine came last night for the first check of the season. We checked 14 traps and almost doubled the keepah count.
Thank you to everyone who helped me get the USS Coalman on the water for another summer of Bugs and Bass.
Your rewards await.
We successfully pulled 14 of 15 traps Friday afternoon. Some unknown bottom dweller latched on to our 15th trap.
Shawn and I went out to the inland sea today to rescue #15.
When the buoy came on board the line flowed easily through the pot hauler. Our sea demon let go.
Our reward was seven keepah lobsters. This hard shell is going to require a hammer and vise.
We got out late but still slung some slime. Shawn had a nice striper take his bait right at the boat.
Thanks for the eels Joe!
Welcome to Bugs and Bass 2016.

The wind was stiff out of the south as we motored through open bay on an incoming tide. That tends to produce rollers that greeted us angrily at green can. As soon as we passed through Adam's Point the water became much more manageable.
Lots of birds working Fox when we arrived but very little diving. You could tell the bass were pushing bait up onto the flats. The wind was our enemy as the tide turned out and that south wind didn't quit. We were through the drifts before really getting our bait working.
I did land my first striped one of the season and the only fish to come over the gunnel tonight.
The skunk is off.
I love this playground.
