OK folks this is for a little turkey season fun. I hope everyone with a tag will take part. The winner will get a call or something turkey hunting related. If Larry$ wins he gets a couple boxes of HO HO's. :D Posted Image

Kansas season opens April 11 which I have to wait till I get there on the 10th to pick up my tags. I have one tag already for the PA season and have ordered another for the season which opens April 28th. Although I may have to shoot two and add them together to beat Leo, he shoots really big ones.

Not entirely true. No, I don't shoot jakes. But let me explain. The birds where I hunt are natural hybrids of the Osceola/Eastern breeds. A typical two year old here will have a good beard and spurs. Usually a two year old of these birds has spurs 3/4" to 7/8" and a 9"+ beard. That's a good turkey and I don't pass on two year olds. Where these turkeys really suffer in the scoring department is weight. A two year old here is quite often only 15 to 17lbs. That's average honest weight of these birds. In 12yrs of hunting in this area I have only ever killed ONE turkey in this area that honestly weighed over 19lbs. That bird was five or six years old. Maybe it's just me, but it's seems impossible to kill one of the "ancients" every year. Honestly, that's my only chance in the weight department of this contest. Every two year old I've killed in Alabama weighed 19-21lbs. I understand that's pretty much the trend for turkeys west of here. Missouri and Penn two year olds can be a lot heavier.

Two pounds makes a big difference on the scoring scale. I have to make up every pound under with 1/16" more spur or 1/2" more beard. The turkeys I typically get are very beatable with that scoring system.

If I'm blessed enough to get one of old warriors. I got a chance.

Good luck everyone. Lets see some good birds :)

Opens April 16, here in Missouri, and ends May 6.
My son Jason's biggest so far was 28 3/4 pounds, 10 9/8 " beard and 1 3/4" spurs Mine was 15 pounds, 1" spurs and 12" beard. Jason has killed about 6 gobblers and not one under 20 lbs. A 10 1/2" beard is fairly common and there's a lot of birds with 1 1/2" spurs in this area and not uncommon to kill a 30lb plus bird.

Ga season begins March 24 - I think it ends May 15 (usually too hot & too many snakes by then).

Now Now Leo no excuses. Most of the turkeys I have shot also weighed from 17 to 22 lbs. That includes Kansas. My biggest tom was 22 lbs and shot in Kansas. My biggest PA tom was 21 lbs. That is the biggest not the average. Anyhoo I am just jerking your chain.

Vickie in the later part of your season it sounds like you should just go on a snake hunt and happen to shoot a turkey.
