Today {May 5th} was the Wisconsin Fishing Opener. My son Dan, his girlfriend Shannon, and I travelled to the Apple River near Star Prairie Wi. to do our annual trout bash. Weather was 60 degrees, overcast, with rain forecasted. We were fishing with minnows, and caught rainbows and browns. This is a heavily stocked stream, is really borderline as far as trout water is concerned, although a few survive from year to year to give one an opportunity at some nice fish. Dan caught an 18" Rainbow and lost 2 others of similar size, I just try to catch little ones, they fit the fry pan better! Tonight its fried fish, fried potatos, and home-made bread! Tomorrow, it's back to the river for more! Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Nice rainbow!

Our lakes are open, but we must wait for the runoff before venturing into the rivers and streams for flyfishing.
