A new twist this season

At 5pm one hen comes into the strut zone. Good sign.
5:30pm Gobbler #1 sounds off on the right. The hen beelines for him. All right they both make it back to this area soon, I think. They never show. This was really not their typical behaviour. Something was up.
6:30pm Gobbler #2 sounds off to the left. Different bird for sure. No hens in the area this time. Surely, he will come in. Nope, he never shows either. Something is definately changed their pattern and I don't know what it is. They really really like this strut zone. It's absolutely one of the hottest afternoon hang outs I know. I can hear birds around the area but they aren't showing themselves. Something does not add up.
7:30pm I pack up, I don't know what else I could have done to make it work out. Suddenly, I find out what's up. I look out accross the field and a coyote is making it's way accross the center of it. Unfortunately too far for the shotgun. It must have been staking out the field. Nothing will shut down turkey activity in a field quicker than a coyote. This is not good. I can't take non-turkey hunting weapons into the area until after the season is up. Woulda been a pretty easy shot with the 223.

Rotten luck Leo. Maybe it'll be better today.
