It's quite amazing to me the shear numbers of deer harvested and yet the population in some states are over populated. Further more the number of vehicle deer collisions.

On the other hand if the sportsman did not manage the deer numbers just think about over population and disease.

Interesting to also note- of the 517,000 deer killed in Wisconsin, only 25 were registered as Boone & Crockett. They needed a minimum score of 160 to get listed {170 for the all-time list} . THATS 1 B&C BUCK FOR EVERY 20,000 DEER HARVESTED. Rare animals indeed.

Funny that PA use to be right in the the top two with Texas. Now we don't even come close to the top five.
What's really interesting is that PA's total harvest was ALWAYS based on the PGC using the theory that only 50% of the hunters send in a manditory harvest report card. This year they suddenly changed gears and decided that only 40% of successful hunters report their harvest. Why would they do this??????
Do the math, example:

say 200,000 report cards are recieved- using the old system which was always in place, then the actual harvest would be 400,000

now, 200,000 reports cards recieved- using the new system of only 40%, it would show that 440,000 (check my math please) any ways....showing a higher harvest discredits hunter concerns of drastically reduced deer numbers.

So why the sudden change. Check out PA's 05 harvest , Remember that this was reached by using the 40% system, now refigure the numbers using the 50% method that was always used up until this season and you'll see a drastic decline over the past 4 years(especially last year). Not really complaining, just tired of the PGC juggling numbers to save face. The 4 main areas I hunt across the state have very few deer as compared to few seasons ago. :worry:*yeah, I know the pat answer....hunt somewhere else.(geez, 2 of these areas are Deer Management areas targeted for high deer populations <_< )
