Bruce: Here is a link to the DOW lion hunting regs

http://wildlife.stat...7832/0/lion.pdf

And here is the DOW webpage concerning lion hunting requirments and details:

http://wildlife.stat...g/MountainLion/

It looks like you have to take a special lion class, pass a test and carry a special tag to hunt them.

So when do we go?

The lion test is simple....they offer a practice test on the webpage.

I started thinking about doing one of these hunts when I was in Colorado last August when the outfitter offers them. It does sound like fun and challenging when using dogs and being able to track one in the snow. I guess where they hunt them it does not snow all to regularly so the hunts are spontaneous after a snow and the clients have to be notified with in a 24 hours to go hunt one. That means the clients have to be close or able to drop what they doing and jump a flight to get there fast. But once they do get on one it's a sure deal and percentages where pretty high of being able to take one if you chose to.
What's your plane Larry and Bruce?
You two using an outfitter? or any dogs? Or driving the snowy roads for tracks and start off on foot glassing your way across?

No plan, just a spur-of-the-moment idea. No dogs either so it would be the hard way. We know they're out there, finding them is another story. Kinda like elk. ^_^

Larry from what I recall you guys are real cat/bear magnets anyhow just go out and they will find you. I would suggest that you sit back to back though so nothing can sneak up behind you.
