Well almost. Eric and I hunted all morning, saw a couple but no shot. We went back this afternoon to the place we had the comedy of errors hunt. We were walking down the mt to the spot. Got to within 10 or 15 feet and Eric says "Dad, deer". I look down to the spot I shot at the one last week and yep there were several deer. They were headed up toward us so I waited. The lead doe was a big one and I just followed her with the flintlock at the ready. At about 40 yards she stopped but her vitals were behind a tree. One more step that is all I need. All of a sudden she takes off running the other way. I never moved but she saw something she did not like.

 That was the first thing that popped into my head too. That doe probably saw Eric standing up there with a knife in one hand, a fork in the other and a napkin tied around his neck.

I don't think they saw him but she may have heard him yelling Shoot, Shoot SHOOT. I replied all I have is a gut shot. A buddy of Eric's has a saying " Shoot him the guts show him where it hurts" but in real life that is a really poor shot. Oh well now I get to hunt them this week without the snow and in some really warm predicted weather. By Wednesday it is predicted to get up to the low 60s. :o Heck I can't see em with a snow background now what do I do.

Well the best part about not shootng one was.. you don't have to gut it, clean it, butcher it, wrap it.. but you don't get to eat it as well.. There is always a trade off..
