Heres the two I've done so far. The first is my deer and the second is my son Jason's. Don't think they turned out too bad for my first attempt.

They are alot of work to make em clean as possible. I even pull the teeth and pick in behind there and super glue em back in. I soak my finished product in a mixture of peroxide and water for about 2 weeks that gets all the skull a brilliant white and then a light clear coat helps with small cracks.

Hey Marty, when you say "...a light coat of clear coat..." what are you using and is it multiple light coats or just one? Also, do you coat the horns and skull all at the same time with the same product?

Larry, myself, I use the same thing on the antlers that I do on gun stocks. Birchwood Casey's True Oil, which puts a hard gloss on them. On the skulls I use a satin finish spray varnish and usually just one or two light coats. The contrast between the two looks more natural to me. I too am interested in how Marty does his. It is a lot of work but I kind of enjoyed doing them. A taxidermist charges quite a bit to do one plus it's nice to sit back and admire something you've done yourself. Hey, we could be starting a trend.

Thanks Norm. A buddy of mine has done a couple of elk this way and they look really good, but I don't know how he did it.

 They look good to me too. I know of someone who paints them up so that they look like something that you would see in a teepee. They look pretty neat too.
