Just finished the final classroom sessions, range sessions and testing to achieve my Basic Rifle Instructor certification through the NRA and then became a member too. The course was much more difficult than I had imagined it was going to be with 10 - 12 hours a day in the classroom (or on the range) and then another 4 - 5 hours of homework each night. We even did "working lunches" in the classroom. It's OK to eat, but ya better swallow quick and wipe your mouth when called on. ^_^

The course was well laid out and the NRA leaves nothing to chance in your education but man, you'd better show up prepared to go all out for 3 days! One of my biggest concerns was the range qualifications. After my lazik eye surgery in January, my vision has changed dramatically. I can no longer see the sights like I have always been used to nor can I develop the kind of sight picture I have always used. With some work and experimentation I have been able to adapt (though I wouldn't say it's as good as before) but this weekend was the test. Fortunately I passed all the range tests with flying colors using a .22 and shooting maximum 1 1/2" groups at 50' from standing free arm, standing arm rest, kneeling, sitting, prone and bench rest with the wind blowing a gale at the range.

Very cool Larry. COngrats.

(Was that a NRA life membership?)

I took my Colo CCW handgun class last fall and the guy's pestering me to take all the advance classes to be an instructor. Maybe when I retire. But I dont think I have the time right now. Heck I hadnt even got downtown to get the CCW permit yet, too busy doctoring and wiring up new truck for the camper and getting camper ready for scouting trip to Crested Butte at end of month.

  Congrats Larry! Man that's a great achievement.

I know what you mean about the Lasik vision change when seeing things up close to you. I did mine back in 2001 and sighting anything in (bow sights) takes some adaption but it will mentally get better as you adapt.

I also took a ccw class here in Omaha. Just recieved my permit a week ago. It took 7 weeks before I recieved it. Anyway Larry that is very cool. I remember when I had RK when it first came out. I was a great shot with the shotgun but suddenly I couldn't hit anything. It took a few years to re-adjust. I still get into my ol ways now and then but not the same ol shot I used to be. I am sending my life time membership in this year I hope. Good way to spend some of that stimulas money :D

As a Maryland Hunter Safety Instructor we also had to take the NRA Range Officer test. I too did pass and I did have a lot of fun doing it.

Congratulations to you Larry. Please give some instruction to Bruce and Charlie. They need it. Just kidding. Well maybe about Charlie.

Dude, you are the Man. After our trip to BC I knew you'd be the Mountain Man of the ranch in no time. That is no easy accomplishment! Do we call you Officer Money now?

Say Hi to Mel for me too.
