I've always wanted to get a pistol since my Gander Mountain employee days which have seemed like light years ago... uh roughly four... I'd recently decided to *ahem* pull the trigger. It didn't end up being a Kimber CDP in 45ACP or a 4" Ruger SS in .357 but I'm happy after taking 4 years occasionally milling over it. I got a Springfield Armory XD in 9mm (4" Service model size -17 rounds) and then a Ruger LCP (.380-7 rounds) for sleek carry. The LCP is a bit of a handful due to the lack of a normal grip but with a mag extender and hogue grip sleeve it's decent to shoot paper with comfortably.

Those are looking real good. Congrats on the buy.

I thought about heading up this weekend, but I'm not sure yet.

I haven't been the only one shooting...

So how do you like the XD Seth? I have been resisting the temptation for years.... Is it the new XDM?

I like it a lot. No, the XDM is a 4.5" match grade barrel... which I understand it's marketed mostly for competition shooting. I was always bent on Glocks, as they've been proven over and over and over again. This is why I picked the XD over the Glock: 1. The XD was $70 less and included an extra clip, speed loader, tactical holster, and mag holders. (Those additional accessories would have run me $100+ with a Glock.) 2. I liked the big machined steel slide rails over the smaller non-machined rails in the Glock. 3. I liked the grip safety of the XD that the Glock doesn't have. 4. And I like the XD grip better as it's contour seems to fit in the hand better.

We did a 3 hour NRA pistol class the other night and the instructor (a city police sergeant and SWAT team leader with a long police/Marine resume) shoot a few rounds with it and commented on how much he liked it. Again though his issued sidearm is a Glock...

One thing I do like on the Glock is that they're mags are made out of the same almost indestructible material their frames are. XDs use the bent sheet metal style that every other manufacturer does.

Nice guns and rigs. You made good choices. I forsee a .45 in your future. Or maybe a 44.
