Using that filter for those shots was a good idea.

Do you have a circular polarizer filter? They are very useful for extremely bright conditions also.

I don't but I may need to get one, We're going down to Jupiter Fl. in May and doing some fishing...
anything you'd suggest to have on the lens for beach/water shots?

Yep, the circular polarizer LOL! That's what I use for my beach shots. I've found, the polarizer will cut glare reflected off water the best. If you can set the histogram display to dynamic it will give you a graphical view of the color distribution, plus light and shadow strength. I adjust the polarizer until I get a pretty smooth histogram then take the photo.

but of course...the circular polarizer ....and why didn't I think of that :)
