Idaho’s First Wolf Tag Fetches $8,000 at Auction 10/21/2009 Idaho wildlife officials report that the state’s first wolf hunting tag ever printed in the state has sold for $8,000 to the highest bidder in an auction sponsored by the Congressional Sportsmen Foundation last week.
North Carolina resident Jonny Morris, the founder of Bass Pro Shops, bought Wolf Tag No. 1, and plans to give it to his son, who has plans to go hunting in Idaho later this year. The tag is good for one wolf kill.
The auction was one of six held by nonprofit wildlife conservation groups around the nation to help raise money for Idaho’s wolf management program.
So far, the Tag No. 3 sold for $1,700 at an event hosted by the Mule Deer Foundation, while tag No. 5 sold for just $350 at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s auction.
