Eric and I went out this morning.  In PA it is the first day of a weeklong Muzzleloader doe season but archery season is still in too.  So far I have not had a deer close enough for a crossbow shot so having two doe tags I took my muzzleloader.  At about 8:45 I had all kinds of deer activity below me at a woods edge about 100 yds away.  Deer were running everywhere to my right and to my left.  In a few seconds another deer came out and headed my way.  Just my luck it was a small racked 7 point buck and I can't shoot it with my muzzleloader.  It passed by me at about 3 steps and went right up to Eric who could shoot a buck with his crossbow.  I heard him shoot and my phone rang and he said it is down but not dead so wait a bit.  In less than 10 minutes a doe ran along the woods line about 100 yds away and stopped broadside.  I forgot to take the safety off and just as I flipped it off she ran again but stopped about 20+yds further at a distance of about 75 yds.  This time the rifle belched a big cloud of smoke and the deer ran into the woods tail up but I had heard that distinctive whomp.  Only a couple seconds after she ran into the woods I heard a loud crash.  Could it be?  Did we just score a deer double?  The huge blood trail we found and followed to my doe proved affirmative on a deer double.  Man is it a lot of work to get two deer back to the truck though.
